From the second we arrived in Panama, all accommodations arranged by Yaneth have been spot on. Everyone we encountered has been courteous and timely. The island is beautiful, the rooms comfortable, the food and service were both amazing. We enjoyed our time there and will recommend it to others. Enjoy yoga, kayaking, beach, fishing or pool. It was all great! The island dogs were very friendly!
Simply Phenomenal experience. Unfortunately, the Marlin bite wasn't on for us, but the entire staff including ownership and management went out of their way to ensure our little group was attended to. The food was great, resort itself fantastic, service second to none, boats\fishing equipment is well taken care of and the captains spare no expense\effort to get on the fish. An to kick it all over top, the staff made a birthday cake for me after finding out I was there to celebrate with customized decorations. We'll be back.
We caught this place during a management change and I imagine the problems we experienced have since been corrected. I had initially paid for a simple "cheap" 4 hour fishing trip in the archipelago via "local" guide and skiff prior to our arrival. That did not work out. The owner let us know we would probably have a poor experience as they had a new guy that was not familiar with the waters. Why not upgrade to the premier boat with the real expert for additional 800$. My husband agreed and at dinner we were approached that was not enough $ and an additional 500 was needed to cover the cost of gas. At a total cost now of 1700$ my husband said nevermind (this of course did not include what the room and food/bar tab was). The catamaran had been struck by lightening and needed repair. The horse back into interior of island with picnic lunch also not an option as the woman who owned the other property was no longer their partner. I was needless to say disappointed in lack of options of activities. Jessica and Fernando did provide excellent service in the cute intimate restaurant. The food was definitely superior. The remote island location most definitely memorable. I had the intention to write Frommers and update them with our mixed reviews. Cala Mia may have been in the process of updating themselves to a more "world class sport fishing" destination. We had been simply looking for a casual island retreat. In that this small resort did not disappoint. And of course the one night (of five) that the fishing group of 4 that did have a successful day presented into the dining room loud, celebratory and obnoxious we felt like second class customers.
From the second we arrived until the moment we had to leave, we were taken to paradise! The resort is breathing. The people made it even more special. Michael is the MAN! And the owners were so gracious! World class food imo, 4 of us loved every meal! Fishing was excellent, an amazing time on the Pacific we won’t soon forget! Chumbo, Michael, Fred & Kevin from PNC will get you on the fish! Hope to return again one day :) Thank you for having us
Cala Mia is paradise, pleasure, and happiness. David and his team (Gladis, Yaneth, Gube, Tati, Mykal, and more) are the most attentive, caring, and fun team. They made sure that our group of 4 had everything we needed for a great stay from meticulous meals, massages, tours of the island, and just great people to chat with. The fishing also delivered. We were able to catch one blue marlin, two black marlin, dozens of snappers, rainbow runner, etc. Tati is a world-class captain, Gube is easily the best deck hand / first mate I’ve ever sailed with, and the boat is all around comfortable. If you want the best offshore fishing in the world, come to Cala Mia! We will miss the Cala Mia Resort and team. We cannot wait to return!
